I N S T R U C T I O N S |
GAME OVERVIEW
OLYMPIC TRIALS is a game for 1-4 players.
It can simulate a selection of 6 Olympic
events, which can be practised separately or
played simultaneously in the Full Game. In
order to progress to a higher level, a certain
standard has to be achieved and your score
will be accumulated to the High Score Table.
If you excel in a particular game, whether in
playing the Full Game or just practising, you
may beat the World Record! After you have
played through a cycle of 6 events in a Full
Game, you will start again but each time with
harder standard and tougher opponents.
• Press START to start any selected event.
• To pause while playing an event, press
START; to resume play press START again.
• To return to Main Menu from within an event,
press START + SELECT + A + B
simultaneously.
MAIN MENU
When SuperVision is switched on, you will be
presented with a menu of options.
• Game Type (default option - Full Game)
This option selects what type of game to play.
There are 6 events in Olympic Trial.
• Number of Players (default option - 1)
You can have up to 4 players, who will take
turn to play each event.
• Sign On
This option allows you to sign your initials
and country of origin. You are allowed to
enter 3 letters. Use the Left/Right/Up/Down
buttons to move around a table of available
letters and numbers in the box at the bottom
of the screen.
Press SELECT after you have chosen the
right letter and move on to the next letter until
you have finished. When the arrow is placed
beneath the flag beside your initials, press
again the direction keys to choose your
country of origin.
Press START will let you go into the event
selected.
• Hi Score
This option will display the High Score Table
which shows the 6 highest scores of the
session, along with the player's initials and
country.
Press START to return to the Main Menu.
1. HURDLES
At the starting block, a side-on view of the
track with 2 runners will be presented. Your
runner is in lane 1, wearing light shorts, above
the other competitor. At the top of the screen
will appear the following statistics, reading
from left to right:
• Player number & initials
• Elapsed race time
• Number of false starts (depicted by 1 or 2
crosses)
• Qualifying time (time limit allowed to beat in
order to progress)
• World record (time limit allowed to beat in
order to set a new World Record)
Playing the game
The starting orders - Ready, Get Set, Go - will
appear. Make sure you have the GO sign before
you start running or you will have to re-
start. Three false starts would be enough to
make you disqualified.
Once you start running press 'A' & 'B' buttons
IN TURN as fast as you could to build up
speed. Press any direction key to jump when
you approach a hurdle. If you mistime your
leap, you will hit the hurdle, stumble & lose
time. The course is 110 metres long where
you need to jump ten hurdles.
Control Keys
UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT
Press any of these buttons to jump. You must
run fast to be able to jump properly or the
button would have no effect.
'A' & 'B'
To build up speed, you must press these two
buttons in turn i.e. 'A' then 'B' then 'A' then 'B'
etc. Press quickly to build up a reasonable
speed.
2. LONG JUMP
At the starting block, a side-on view of the
Long Jump track with your athlete ready will
be presented. At the top of the screen, the
following statistics will appear in a window,
reading from left to right:
• Player no. & initials
• Distance jumped (shown once you have
jumped)
• Number of foul jumps (depicted by 1 or 2
crosses)
• Qualifying distance (the distance needed to
beat to progress)
• World Record (the distance needed to beat
to set a new World Record)
At the bottom of the screen appears a Speed
Indicator indicating your running speed. When
you jump, it will be replaced by an Angle Box
showing the angle you are about to jump.
Playing The Game
Press 'A' & 'B' buttons alternately to build up
enough speed until you reach the line at the
start of the sandpit. Then press one of the
direction buttons and HOLD IT DOWN until
the required angle to jump at, which will be
shown in a box at the left bottom screen, has
been reached. Release the buttons and you
will see your athletes leap into the air and
jump.
If you run over the line, you will get a Fault.
Two more attempts to perform a legal jump
are allowed.
Control Keys
UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT
To jump, press any of the direction buttons.
You must run fast enough to be able to jump
properly or these buttons will have no effect.
Hold the button down to increase your angle
of ascent and adjust to the best angle for
jumping.
'A' & 'B'
To build up speed, you must press these two
buttons in turn i.e. 'A' then 'B' then 'A' then 'B'
etc. Press quickly to build up a reasonable
speed.
3. ARCHERY
The target you are aiming at and a side-on
view of your archer ready to release the bow
will be presented. A flag, the Wind Speed
Indicator, will change from arrow to arrow to
show the wind speed at the current time, will
appear with a pointer facing left or right. The
further it is away from the flag, the stronger
will be the wind & the more you will have to
compensate when firing.
Below the Wind Speed indicator is a box
which counts down from 5 to 0, indicating the
time limit for you to shoot. '0' shows that you
have scored a fault. Three faults and you will
be disqualified.
At the top of the screen, the following statistics
appear, reading left to right:
• Player number & initials
• Score from this shot (shown once you have
fired)
• Number of shots fired (shown as 1/5, 2/5,
etc.)
• Total score so far
• Number of fouls (depicted by 1 or 2
crosses)
• Qualifying score (score needed to beat in
order to progress)
• World Record (score needed to beat to set
new World Record)
Playing The Game
Use the direction buttons to control the cursor,
which automatically moves in a set direction,
to alter its velocity until the correct firing point
is reached. You should take into account the
Wind Speed & Angle to fire at the target so get
the arrow as close as you can to the centre of
the target in order to score maximum points.
You have 5 shots which have to be fired within
5 seconds or you will commit a foul.

UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT
The direction buttons control where your
cursor aims at. As the cursor keeps moving,
you have to be quick to have full control.
'A' & 'B'
These buttons are used to fire your bow. Hold
them down to increase the Angle of your
arrow. The lower the angle, the higher will be
your arrow on the target and vice versa.
4. SHOT PUT
A side-on view of the Shot put track with your
athlete ready to begin will be presented. At
the top of the screen, in a window, appears
the following statistics reading from left to
right:
• Player number & initials
• Distance thrown (shown once you have
thrown)
• Number of fouls thrown (depicted by 1 or 2
crosses)
• Qualifying distance (distance needed to
beat to progress)
• World Record (distance needed to beat to
set a new World Record)
When you start to throw, an Angle Box
appears, showing the angle you are throwing
the shot at. Once the angle is selected, at the
bottom of the screen appears a Power Indicator
which shows the force you are using to throw
the shot.
Playing The Game
You need not press any key until you have
reached the fault line. Then press any of the
direction buttons and HOLD IT DOWN to
reach the required angle to throw at. It will be
shown in the box at the bottom left of the
screen. Once you reach the angle, release
the buttons and a Power Indicator will be
shown at the bottom of the screen. Press 'A'
& 'B' button alternately to build up enough
power to throw the shot as far as possible. Act
quickly as limited time is allowed to build up
the power. A short while later, the shot will be
released and you can watch it fly through the
air and lands.
Note that after you have chosen the angle to
throw at, you need to take a step forward in
order to throw. You will get a Fault if your body
goes over the line. Two more attempts to
perform a legal throw are allowed or you will
be disqualified.
Control Keys
UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT
Press any direction button to start your throw.
Hold down the button to increase your shot's
angle of ascent. You should judge which is
the best angle to throw at any particular shot
power.
'A' & 'B'
Press these two buttons in turn i.e. 'A' then 'B'
then 'A' then 'B' etc. Press quickly to build up
a reasonable force.
5. ROWING
A top down view of 2 canoes awaiting at the
start line will be presented. Your canoe is the
one on the left. At the top of the screen in a
window appears the following statistics,
reading from left to right.
• Player number & initials
• Elapsed race time
• Number of false starts (depicted by 1 or 2
crosses)
• Qualifying time (time needed to beat to
progress)
• World Record (time needed to beat to set a
new World Record)
Playing the Game
The trick is - do not leave the oars in the water
for too long or they will drag and slow you
down. [Ready, Get Set, Go] will appear but
you only start rowing when you see the GO
sign. You are allowed 3 false starts or you will
be disqualified.
Press 'A' or 'B' buttons to put the oars in the
water and hold it down to bring the oars back,
thus propelling the canoe along. To bring the
oars out of the water, you release the button.
You have to maintain a good pace to move at
any record-breaking speed. Once you master
the know-how, it will be a simple task to
achieve.
Control Keys
'A' or 'B'
Press either one of these buttons to put the
oars in the water. Hold it down to bring the
oars back and push the canoe forward.
Release to return the oars to normal position.
6. CYCLING
A side-on view of a Velodrome, with 2 cyclists
at the start line, will be presented. Your
cyclist is the one with the black hat on the inside
lane. At the top of the screen in a window
appears the following statistics, reading from
left to right.
• Player number & initials
• Elapsed race time
• Current lap number
• Qualifying time (time needed to beat to
progress)
• World Record (time needed to beat to set
new World Record)
At the bottom of the screen, a Power Indicator
appears showing how much energy you have
left. To the right there is a top down map of
the track with a small cursor showing where
you are.
Playing the Game
Stamina & strategy are needed to succeed.
When the race begins, a certain amount of
Power has been stored up for you, but it gets
depleted as you accelerate. Quickly press
the 'A' & 'B' button alternately to constantly
keep up the speed as the race is over 4 laps.
Move up and down the track would allow you
to overtake the other player or block them. It
is advantageous for you to be on one of the
banked section. The map show your present
location in the Velodrome.
Control Keys
UP/DOWN
These buttons allow you to move up & down
the track, to overtake or block the other
cyclist.
LEFT
This button accelerates your speed but your
power will be reduced at a higher rate. If zero
appears, you will be slowed right down. To
start accelerating again, you have to build
enough Power.
RIGHT
This button decelerates your speed thus
conserving Power. But your opponent can
take advantage of your slower speed.
A' & 'B'
To build up Power, you must press these two
buttons in turn i.e. 'A' then 'B' then 'A' then 'B'
etc. Press quickly to build up a reasonable
force or no power will be installed.

Text in the game binary includes LINK UP, presumably a reference to a multiplayer
link cable mode of play. However, no such mode exists in the actual game.
Olympic Trials was developed for B.I.T.S. by Divide By Zero.

E N D I N G |
Olympic Trials was not programmed to feature an ending sequence. After you
complete the full set of events with either qualifying or world record scores,
the game loops back to Hurdles, the first event, and crashes.
